Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Garden at Skutesjön Healing Center

Today, we're inviting you to step into the verdant oasis that is our garden at Skutesjön Healing Center. Amidst the rustling leaves and the tranquil hum of nature, Avalo, a dedicated member of our garden group, is engrossed in her labor of love - planting tomatoes.

"I'm planting tomatoes right now," Avalo shares, her hands gently cradling the young plants as she nestles them into the rich soil. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and it's clear that this isn't just a task, but a passion. But her gardening prowess isn't limited to tomatoes.

"We also have physalis, squash, bell peppers, chili, beans, and corn," she adds, her eyes sparkling with pride as she surveys the thriving plants around her.

Despite the abundance of vegetables, Avalo notes that cucumbers have been a bit elusive this season.

"We don't have much cucumber, only one plant has survived and made it here," she says. But at Skutesjön, every challenge is an opportunity for growth, and Avalo is undeterred.

"Mimi bought some seeds and flower seeds, so we're looking forward to seeing them sprout and grow."

Today isn't just about planting, though. It's also a water project day at the center. "We bought a sprinkler and connected our pump," Avalo explains. This new setup will ensure that all the plants receive the right amount of water, essential for their growth and health.

Just a stone's throw away, Patrik is engrossed in setting up the water pump.

He has connected all the parts, but to ensure everything is in order, he's on a call with Mattias, a faithful Skute Sailor who's currently at another location.

"So it starts pumping as soon as you plug it in?" Patrik asks, his voice carrying over the increasing wind.

With the hose extension connected and the pump finally running, the garden is soon filled with the soothing sound of trickling water.

When asked how it felt now that the water was running, Patrik laughed and said, "It feels nice to bring back the greenery and freshness."

As the day winds down, Avalo looks around the garden with satisfaction. It's clear that every plant here is nurtured with love and care, embodying the spirit of Skutesjön Healing Center.

Before finishing up with outdoor activities for the day, the two and Artur unload a used Greenhouse that was gifted to them. After some discussions on whether or not the location that had been decided upon was the right one, the trio continued unloading the material to prepare for tomorrow's work when a larger portion of the greenhouse team comes back to Skutan.

As we labor to produce food, on the other side of the lake a roe deer enjoys fresh food growing on what once was the surface of the lake Skutesjön.

Join us next time as we continue to explore the wonders of nature and the joy of gardening at Skutesjön. Until then, happy planting!
